Why is the subject important?

Travel and Tourism enables students to explore one of the fastest growing industries in the UK and worldwide, with the industry growing at a rate of 4.2% a year. Within Travel and Tourism, students will develop skills, knowledge and an understanding of the travel and tourism industry. They will have an opportunity to gain confidence by developing independent learning skills and applying their understanding in a practical way which will enable them to progress to further education and employment in travel and tourism. The curriculum develops broad knowledge of the functioning of the travel and tourism by using different space and place concepts and comparative tourism companies to gain excellent knowledge of how the industry works.

How will I be assessed?

  • 75% of the BTEC First Level 2 award is assignment based in the classroom. Students will be guided through the assessment learning outcomes to produce work that is marked internally and then externally verified by Pearson Edexcel. These units are Unit 2, 3 and 4.
  • Unit 1 is an externally set examination that is 1 ¼ hours long and is marked out of 60 marks. Students will be taught the content of the examination in lessons with practice of the command words that will appear in the examination.
