Where do I access the Microsoft Form from to choose option subjects?

The Microsoft Form will be emailed to parents/carers on Friday 26 February.

My child has submitted the form but we’ve realised we’ve made a mistake. What should we do?

Email contactus@trinityacademyhalifax.org before the deadline for submission (Friday 12 March at 9am) and a member of our team will correct this on the system.

What is the deadline to complete the Microsoft Form?

The deadline is Friday 12 March at 9am.

Why has the subject options process changed this year?

As an academy we are constantly reviewing our curriculum to ensure we meet the needs of students. Following updated guidance from the Department for Education and feedback we received from parents during our process last year, we have made changes. This is the first year that Year 9 students are being given the opportunity to choose additional option subjects.

When are the student live drop-in sessions taking place?

Student live drop-in sessions will take place on Microsoft Teams on:

  • Tuesday 23 February at 10:30am – RB
  • Wednesday 24 February at 10:30am – YG

We would recommend that your child takes part in these sessions.

My child is in RB. Why is MFL compulsory for them?

Students in RB have higher prior academic attainment and as such, have a curriculum tailored to complete the full EBACC. It is a government requirement that schools ensure as many students as possible complete the full EBACC which includes English, Maths, Science, History or Geography and MFL.

Studying modern foreign languages provides students with a wealth of opportunities both academically and culturally. Students who study a modern foreign language are more likely to be higher earners in the future. As an academy, we are committed to opening doors for our students. The promotion of an academic curriculum forms part of this vision.

Why can my child not pick subjects such as Art, Performing Arts and Music?

When students were in Year 8 they had the opportunity to personalise elements of their curriculum. This included selecting an Option A subject which included Art, Performing Arts and Music. In order to ensure that students have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, a wide range of different options are available to study in Years 10 and 11.

Will my child work towards a qualification in PE?

No. Core PE is part of the curriculum in all year groups. Students will have one lesson per week of PE in Years 9, 10 and 11.

If I have questions about the subject content of the options available, who can I ask?

Please refer to the guidance in the subject choices booklet or visit the curriculum subjects section of the academy website (https://halifax.trinitymat.org/curriculum/curriculum-subjects/). We would also advise that students access the subject promotional videos on Trinity TV which can be found in the ‘On Demand’ folder. If you have further questions after having explored these options, please complete the Microsoft Form and a member of the curriculum team will either:

  • Reply to you via email
  • Book you a video call on Tuesday 9 March

What will my child be studying in their core subjects, such as English and Maths?

Please visit the Curriculum Subjects page on the academy website which provides an overview of the content: https://halifax.trinitymat.org/curriculum/curriculum-subjects/

Is the virtual IAG evening a compulsory event for parents/carers?

No. Parents/carers will be invited to attend the virtual IAG evening should they have a question that has not been answered through the IAG process.

My child is currently in the Year 9 Enrich pathway, will they follow the same options process?

Students in Enrich will be contacted by the SEN team to provide further support to guide them through the options process.

What curriculum will my child follow in Year 10?

Please refer to page 6 of the IAG booklet. This outlines the curriculum your child will follow. This will differ depending on if they are in RB or YG. Option A is the subject option students started in Year 9 and they will complete this at the end of Year 10. Option B (and C for YG) are subjects students will pick as part of the current options process and will be studied in Years 10 and 11.
